FIVE CORE PROGRAMS for WILDLIFE HABITAT

Chesapeake Care constructs and manages wetland habitat and shallow impoundments for waterfowl and other wetland dependent wildlife, including establishment of upland vegetation and cover, with attendant concerns for nutrient run-off and sediment control.

Sustainable agriculture farm scale research and extension work encompasses over 60,000 acres of farmland, with 2,000 acres under active management. CWH is a founding member of Future Harvest -a Sustainable Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay (FH-CASA), a network of farmers, agricultural professionals, landowners and consumers supporting profitable and sustainable food and farming systems.

Installing artificial wildlife nesting structures for wood ducks, ospreys, bluebirds, purple martins, kestrels, bats, barred owls, and barn owls.

Landowner Services consults with landowners interested in preservation and habitat restoration of their properties while achieving maximum financial benefits from a long-term land disposition plan.

Education and community outreach
to educate a greater variety of landowners and others on the methods and benefits of wildlife habitat enhancement projects. This program includes our work on Small scale and backyard wildlife habitat planning and management which provides guidance to landowners on smaller projects that enhance the wildlife value of their property.

CWH bases all of its work for wildlife on solid scientific research and 25 years of experience in the field. A portion of each program managers time is spent doing specific research to ensure our land management techniques are of the highest quality.
