Chesapeake
Care constructs and manages wetland habitat and shallow impoundments
for waterfowl and other wetland dependent wildlife, including establishment
of upland vegetation and cover, with attendant concerns for nutrient run-off
and sediment control.
Sustainable
agriculture farm scale research and extension work encompasses over
60,000 acres of farmland, with 2,000 acres under active management. CWH
is a founding member of Future Harvest -a Sustainable Alliance for the
Chesapeake Bay (FH-CASA), a network of farmers, agricultural professionals,
landowners and consumers supporting profitable and sustainable food and
farming systems.
Installing artificial wildlife
nesting structures for wood ducks, ospreys, bluebirds, purple martins,
kestrels, bats, barred owls, and barn owls.
Landowner Services consults with landowners interested in preservation and habitat restoration
of their properties while achieving maximum financial benefits from a long-term
land disposition plan.
Education and
community outreach to educate a greater variety of landowners and others
on the methods and benefits of wildlife habitat enhancement projects. This program includes our work on
Small scale and backyard wildlife habitat planning and management which provides
guidance to landowners on smaller projects that enhance the wildlife value
of their property.
CWH bases all of its work for wildlife on solid scientific research and 25 years of experience in the field. A portion of each program managers time is spent doing specific research to ensure our land management techniques are of the highest quality.
